GIVEAWAY - Win a Set of Crazy Quilting Stencils by Sharon Boggon

Happy July, everyone!  We are going to kick this month off by having a giveaway for one of the hottest new items in the CQ world.  That’s right - a complete set of Sharon Boggon`s new stencils for marking seams.  Sharon has graciously given CQI two sets of these fantastic stencils to give away to YOU, the CQI blog readers.  One set is being given away now, and the next giveaway is scheduled for some time in August (stay tuned!)

These clever stencils are made of solid plastic and are clear so that marking seams for embroidery is a cinch. Sharon has also written a very thorough guide for these stencils, filled with examples and tips for using them. The creative possibilities are endless!

Attention all Followers

As you may know, Google Reader is going away in July.  If you follow this blog through your Google Reader, you will lose not only the link to this blog, but to all blogs you are following.

After checking out the two alternative readers (Feedly and Bloglovin’), we recommend that you QUICKLY sign up for Bloglovin’ if you have not already done so.

Just click the link provided in the upper section of the sidebar.  Bloglovin’ will automatically import all your blogs, and you can continue on your merry way. It is really very similar to Google.

COVERED TIN SWAP, 2012

In the summer of 2012, Crazy Quilting International held a tin swap.  The idea was to take an Altoids tin, or something similar, and cover it in crazy quilting.  Participants were also challenged to finish the interior and perhaps include some “goodies” for their swap partner.  There were a lot of participants, but not everyone posted their pictures. You will agree, however, that the ones shown below are lovely and clever!

Lovely work by an unnamed stitcher

This cheery tin (above and below) was stitched by Donna for Sandy

Donna cleverly used a lovely trim on the sides

Susan B’s tin for Hollie. Can you spot the initials?

Shannon stitched the beauty for Theresa

Here is the side view of Shannon’s work

Pam created this lovely tin for Hollie.

Mary was the lucky recipient of this gorgeous tin by Susan

Even the inside is beautiful!

Kristie stitched a beautiful butterfly for Shannon
What a luxury interior!
Cathy K made this tin for Susan R

The interior of the tin is from a vintage padded lining

What a lively and original tin Pam created for Kristie!

Pam even included feet on her tin!

2013 CQI - Crazy Quilt Retreat

Hello to all of our CQI members and blog readers. This post is to announce that RETREAT SIGNUPS ARE OPEN for the.....

6th Annual CQI Retreat

This year the retreat will once again be held in Wonderful Colorado. I will be hosting the retreat at my home this year in beautiful Longmont, Colorado. A quaint little town located just north of Denver, close to Boulder, and just south of the Loveland/Fort Collins area. We are also just a short, scenic drive from Estes Park, Rocky Mountain National Park, and many other scenic areas with yummy eateries and fabulous shops to enjoy.

The retreat is open to all CQI members, and at this point, only CQI members. If we still have space available as we get closer to the retreat we may consider opening registration to non-members.

To minimize retreat costs this year and offer more flexibility (for partners and 'roommates'), each attendee will obtain/share their own hotel rooms, and will be able to begin their day and retire for the night in the comfort and privacy of their own rooms.

Therefore, the cost of the retreat this year is just $75 per person: ($25 non-refundable deposit due upon signup). Your retreat fees include snacks and refreshments during the day, dinners at night, and misc. activities/supplies during the retreat.

A local, well-known and trusted hotel chain in Longmont has set aside a block of rooms for us at a generously reduced rate (just $99 per night/per room, 2 guests per room). Most rooms have 2 queen beds, the others are single king rooms (for couples or those wanting private rooms). Upon the closing of registration, we will assist you in facilitating your reservations. Included with your room is a full breakfast each morning as well as many other amenities on site. This is a really nice facility and very convenient to the retreat location.

So, WHEN is the retreat?
Wednesday, September 18th to Sunday, September 22nd.

Wednesday eve will be our meet and greet to welcome everyone and share dinner together. Thursday through Saturday will be fun filled days of stitching, shopping, field trips and more! And Sunday we will pack up and say 'FAREWELL' until next year.

As always, there will be a variety of activities such at the SHOW & TELL, CRAZY GIFT EXCHANGE (example here), and more. We will also be offering mini-classes of tips, tricks, and techniques. Those details to follow as the specific schedule is firmed up.

If you would like to join us this year you will find the signup form in the CQI main group database. If the link doesn't work for you, please go to the database in the main group and scroll down. Space is limited to 22 attendees and those spots are filling up fast!

Please remember that your signup/registration is not confirmed until your deposit is received. The deadline for deposits is June 1st.

We also encourage you to view the flyer posted in the main group files for additional information. If you have any questions or require further information, please feel free to contact me (Gerry H) at sscanq at Comcast dot net.
