2013 CQI - Crazy Quilt Retreat

Hello to all of our CQI members and blog readers. This post is to announce that RETREAT SIGNUPS ARE OPEN for the.....

6th Annual CQI Retreat

This year the retreat will once again be held in Wonderful Colorado. I will be hosting the retreat at my home this year in beautiful Longmont, Colorado. A quaint little town located just north of Denver, close to Boulder, and just south of the Loveland/Fort Collins area. We are also just a short, scenic drive from Estes Park, Rocky Mountain National Park, and many other scenic areas with yummy eateries and fabulous shops to enjoy.

The retreat is open to all CQI members, and at this point, only CQI members. If we still have space available as we get closer to the retreat we may consider opening registration to non-members.

To minimize retreat costs this year and offer more flexibility (for partners and 'roommates'), each attendee will obtain/share their own hotel rooms, and will be able to begin their day and retire for the night in the comfort and privacy of their own rooms.

Therefore, the cost of the retreat this year is just $75 per person: ($25 non-refundable deposit due upon signup). Your retreat fees include snacks and refreshments during the day, dinners at night, and misc. activities/supplies during the retreat.

A local, well-known and trusted hotel chain in Longmont has set aside a block of rooms for us at a generously reduced rate (just $99 per night/per room, 2 guests per room). Most rooms have 2 queen beds, the others are single king rooms (for couples or those wanting private rooms). Upon the closing of registration, we will assist you in facilitating your reservations. Included with your room is a full breakfast each morning as well as many other amenities on site. This is a really nice facility and very convenient to the retreat location.

So, WHEN is the retreat?
Wednesday, September 18th to Sunday, September 22nd.

Wednesday eve will be our meet and greet to welcome everyone and share dinner together. Thursday through Saturday will be fun filled days of stitching, shopping, field trips and more! And Sunday we will pack up and say 'FAREWELL' until next year.

As always, there will be a variety of activities such at the SHOW & TELL, CRAZY GIFT EXCHANGE (example here), and more. We will also be offering mini-classes of tips, tricks, and techniques. Those details to follow as the specific schedule is firmed up.

If you would like to join us this year you will find the signup form in the CQI main group database. If the link doesn't work for you, please go to the database in the main group and scroll down. Space is limited to 22 attendees and those spots are filling up fast!

Please remember that your signup/registration is not confirmed until your deposit is received. The deadline for deposits is June 1st.

We also encourage you to view the flyer posted in the main group files for additional information. If you have any questions or require further information, please feel free to contact me (Gerry H) at sscanq at Comcast dot net.

Artist DYB (Do Your Own Block) Round Robin, 2011

The participants in this round robin were asked to choose an artist they admired, and piece six blocks in that style.  The other stitchers were then to select and stitch one of the 6” blocks, keeping to the artist style and theme.

The talented participants in this DYB round robin were Gerry Krueger, Hideko Ishida, Gayle Schipper,  Margreet de Reus, Helina Penttinen, and Ritva Peltola.  Nicki Lee Seavey served as the angel (replacement stitcher if needed).

Gayle chose artist Georgia O’Keefe, an American painter of large scale, bold flowers.

Ritva chose a Finnish wildlife artist -  Ferdinand von Wright.  For each block Ritva pieced, she included a picture of the artist’s painting for inspiration.
